   It’s beautiful and the pattern matches all the other Old Country Roses items I’ve purchased, but it does not have the same quality of China. It is oven safe so maybe it’s intended to be thicker. Anyway, it’s a great deal for the price I paid. It was on sale and I got free shipping.

   My mom bought this item for me for Christmas because I own a collect of Old Country Rose dinnerware. We werte so dissappointed when it arrived because the tureen is extremely heavy. We began to look at the bottom of the dish, no clue where it was made. Finally there on the bottom of the box “Made in China”!!!. It does not have the English bone china quality. There is nothing on the web page telling us where it was made. We sent ours back.

   I received as a gift, a set of four of these with 3 other plate sizes as well. It’s a very nice set for the money. I would have expected a better quality product but it is still a nice set. The china is not as thin as I would have expected, but again, for the price it is very nice. The pattern is classic and well done.

   One of the cups was broken and they are already shipping the replacement, no questions asked. That’s customer service I can get on board with. I have another tea set that was made in Japan and hand painted, but so far, I think this is the better set simply because the company stands behind their product.

   i think i expected more since previous reviews have said this product was a 5 star. i was not impressed with the quality. i don’t know if i would get a better product if i were to order direct from royal albert

   The quality of Old Country Roses used to be excellent. In 2002-2003, they moved their production to Indonesia, and then to China. The quality has dropped substantially since then, and so have the prices. You get what you pay for.
   - China-made pieces are heavier and thicker
   - China-made pieces have less accurate gold-work
   If its any consolation, all the major brands of fine china are shifting production to Asia from England and Europe, with commensurate decreases in quality, and sometimes in price.

   This is the best looking china I have ever owned!!! I have owned very expensive sets and none can compare to the look and feel of the Royal Doulton Old Country Rose collection. This is a must have for anyone looking for a classic set of china at a great price.

   The dishes arrived a few days earlier, to my pleseant surprise. The price was less than at Macy’s, even with their super sale and coupons. I am very pleased with my purchase through Amazon. Lenore Flanagan

   NICE DISHES BUT THE REST OF THE ORDER I HAD TO REPORT NOT ARRIVED. RECEIVED REFUND FROM AMAZON. SELLER SHOULD HAVE PRODUCT IN HAND WHEN OFFERING FOR SALE WAITED SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE I CONTACTED AMAZON. AFTER NOT HEARING FROM THE SELLER FOR SOME TIME. NO RESPONSE TO SEVERAL EMAILS.ORIGINALLY ORDERED THREE SETS OF THESE.

   As I’ve said in a previous post, I like this set. I received it as a gift and I like it very much. I would have expected it to be a ‘finer’ china but it is very nice the way it is for it’s price.

   It’s nice but it’s not so thin you’d be afraid to use it. That’s what I like most about the set I have, I will use it to an extent because it is not as thin as if it was over $500.

   I agree with other reviews, in a world where restaurants are the norm, it’s nice to own your own fine china and not be afraid to use it. I plan on adding to my new collection.

   Customer service from Royal Doulton is awesome so don’t fret!

    For sixty dollars per place setting you expect quality. I think I got what I expected. I found no flaws, was impressed by the quality of the gold and other ‘old country roses’ design features, and feel I’ve risen to a new level of civility!

    A high quality place setting will do that for you. These are well made in indonesia, not england. Better made than my indonesian teak lawn furniture, which isn’t too shoddy itself regarding quality.

    You must feel you need this Royal Albert place setting, as well as the large selection of additional table pieces, or it won’t mean anything to you. The pleasure you get from it is internal, in your own mind. It helps you to feel thoroughly middle class, not to put too fine a point on it.

    And what’s wrong with that? With all the dumbing down of culture as this century gets rolling toward that ‘restaurant at the end of the universe,’ why should we deny ourselves the pleasure of owning, maybe even using, this fine china.

    Now that you have decided to get it, you need a china server! See my ‘all my reviews’ section for a review of an antique teak piece for an astonishing price.

    Next, start thinking about all the other pieces, gravy boats etc., you will want to accumulate over the years to complete your set. Don’t take out a second (or third) mortgage on the house to do it though!
