   I bought this 45 piece Mikasa set a little over 1 year ago. Now I don’t do a lot of entertaining, but I wanted dinnerware with a quality appearance. And I got it. What I didn’t know at the time, was how just well made these dishes were. If you have cats in your house, then you know what mischief they can get into. Two weeks ago, at around 4 in the morning, I went from sound asleep to immediately sitting straight up in bed. Why? There was a very loud crash coming from the area of my kitchen. Upon dragging myself out of bed and finding my way to the kitchen, I determined that the guilty culprit had disappeared, and was hiding. But his handiwork was left behind on the floor. He’d gotten up on the counter and somehow knocked onto the floor one of my dinner plates. To my amazement, it was all in one piece. There was not even a chip out of it.

   This dinnerware set is gorgeous! I am very pleased with this purchase, especially since it isn’t a ‘fad’ set of dishes, I can use them for years to come without them looking dated. They are classy and fresh.

   I’ve had a lifetime of pleasure and beautiful table settings with Mikasa French Countryside and passed on the “tradition” to my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. Due to the simplicity and superb quality they will have a lifetime of use and enjoyment with this set. The greatest aspect is the adaptability … tastes change over time but there’s no need to replace your dinnerware … it’s a wonderful staple that I highly recommend.

   This set of Mikasa flatware is really terrific for a number of reasons:
   1) It looks great. The pictures shown here on Amazon don’t do justice. The flatware has a great luster and is simple, but elegant looking.
   2) The pieces feel solid. Each of the flatware pieces (especially the knife) has a solid, durable feel to it. Part of this is because the pieces are a bit oversized.
   3) The price! At $20 a set, this is really a steal.

   OK. Those are the good points… but there are a couple of tradeoffs. Here are a few negative points (although they are relatively minor):
   1) The pieces are 18/8 steel. This is lower quality steel than 18/10. Although the pieces are made in Korea (which has better steel production than China), the steel itself is not “premium” quality.
   2) All the pieces have “Mikasa” (as well as “Made in Korea” and “18/8″) PRINTED on the metal, rather than stamped. Because it’s printed (on the underside of the pieces except for the knife), it detracts from the flatware’s otherwise elegant look. I haven’t owned my set long enough, but I’m guessing that the print will eventually wear off (hopefully).
   3) The spoon is really big. Although all the pieces are a bit oversized, you will notice right away how big the spoon is.

   All in all, this is a terrific flatware set for $20. Although there are some minor issues, those issues are really minor (no more than 1 star’s worth). If you’re looking for a casual flatware set, I strongly recommend considering this one. You won’t be disappointed.

   I just recieved this set today and am enamored with the look, feel, and balance of the pieces. Absolutely worth the money spent! It does have a “Mikasa – Korea” stamp on the underside of each piece, but it did not detract from the piece’s elegance as much as I thought it might when purchasing.

   Love this flatware, simple, elegant pattern; nice weight & balance, but on the back of every piece is a “MIKASA Made in Korea” stamp that’s way too large to miss. This logo unfortunately detracts from an otherwise versatile design, rendering it inappropriate for anything beyond “everyday-friends & family” use.

   Mikasa, if you’re listening: hiding the tacky logo would be a great way to improve this product’s appeal.

   I ordered this as a christmas present for my brother. He’s always been looking for a big platter that would fit in his cupboard. This platter is not only big and deep to hold a big turkey and the juices, its also rectangular. It fits square in the cupboard! In short,my brother loved it.

    I have purchased this product before from different retail establishments for my daughter at Christmas. Usually they were out of the pieces I preferred and they were back ordered.     After placing in dishwasher the first time, dinner plates had these little black spots (I guess from the kiln proccess).

    Great quality setting for the price. Simple enough to be everyday dishes and easy to dress up at the table for holidays. Currently, I have a service for 12 and have used them for many years. They wash up nicely and are not prone to chipping.

    Why worry about where you are going to store that china to be used only on special occassions? While this simple but elegant pattern can be used on special occassions and holidays, it is durable enough to be used on a daily basis.

    This was a lovely platter. I have since found some that were similar for a little less at discount stores but still worth the value. It was a gift to my mom and she uses it as a turkey platter.

    i love mikasa for its elegance in designs,extreme durability and affordable prices.this beautiful white platter is a perfect example.it is big enough to display turkey ,whole chicken or ham with vegetables sprinkled all over.at the same time it is medium weight and can be carried around easily.itis easily washable and can be directly put in an oven as well.in short not only are its utilities manifold but it is an elegant addition for our house.
