Secrets blog on mikasa Antique

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars, they are a little bit big for cereal, but I still love the quality, the shape and style. They are very handy, look great, and I just love the entire set. The soup bowls just don’t cut it for cereal bowls, which is why I bought these, and am pretty happy I did.

I was very pleased with the looks and quality of this dinnerware. Good for every day use, but also good enough to use in formal dinners. Don’t hesitate to buy it!
It is durable, beautiful and goes from everyday to formal dining easily. I love how it feels and how it handles everything I put it through. Finally, pretty dishes that are strong and light!
I would have given this set of dishes a five star rating if not for the fact that the cereal bowls do not stack compactly. I have limited space and I thought the 4 piece set with the mugs and not the tea cup & saucer would take up less room in the cupboard. On the contrary the cereal bowls are immense and do not sit snugly within one another. I have 6 of my 12 place settings, loosely piled on top of one another and they stack up to over 12 inches high. No room for the other 6 in my tiny kitchen. The design of Mikasa Antique White is the china duplicate of Mikasa’s French Contry Side stoneware. I have had that pattern for about 16 years (guess I like it well enough). After all the years, many had broken or cracked. I wanted another set of white everyday dishes that could be used for a special occasion if needed. I have several of the French Country Side serving pieces and the Scotch in me just could not throw them away. I decided the china version of the very same pattern was just the ticket. The stoneware did not hold up very well to being put in the microwave. The china should do just fine. I will follow up if it does not. The finish is very nice, like fine china. They look just like the dishes I saw and held in my hand at the Macy’s downtown. Only I paid 25% less for them on Amazon and I saved on tax too. The mug is a great size. I never did like the smaller cup and saucer that came with my previous stoneware set. It did not hold much tea or coffee and was uncomfortable in your hand. The new set arrived here, on the west coast, from P.A., in tact, in only 4 or 5 days. Do not hesitate to make a purchase if you like the pattern. Mikasa is a nice quality product. I can vouch for the fact that this pattern is one you will not tire of quickly.
I ordered service for 8 and am very happy with these dishes. The 10 inch plate allows for normal portions and the cereal bowls are wonderful for soup and cereal. My husband has a “Italian” nose and likes the coffee cups.
Amazon had the best price and delivery was quick.
I purchased these plates as add-ons to a service for 8 set. I really like the Mikasa Antique White dishes. I had Pfaltzgraff Heritage. These are lighter but seem to take the abuses of everyday use very well. I wash them in the dishwasher and have had no problems.
Mikasa antique white dinner plate is part of my place setting for all of my meals. It is great because it can used for a casual meal as well as for an elegant dinner.
I wanted a pretty set of white everyday plates. These are excellent. Not too heavy, very pretty. They arrived in perfect condition. No chipping as of yet! Doing fine in the dishwasher! Fine in a low heat oven also. I highly recommend!
I’ve had the Mikasa Antique White china collection for about 6 years and use it for everyday and special occasions as it’s the only china pattern we have. It always looks good and I get plenty of compliments about my china ware. Infact, family and friends have bought Mikasa Antique White because they liked mine so much. It’s microwavable, dishwasher and oven proof and says chip resistant, however, two of my dinner plates got chipped in the dishwasher. The design is easily found for replacements and there’s a huge selection of items to choose from when you want to add to your set; cake stands, different sized and shaped servers as well as full coffee and tea sets, pasta sets and canape platters to name a few. It’s a true quality product, hopefully Mikasa will keep producing it for many years to come as it’s a classic.Mikasa Antique White 6-Inch Cereal Bowls, Set of 4
I was looking for everyday dishes that could double for formal meals as well, and Misaka HK 400 Antique White fit the bill. I love these dishes. They are strong, fine pocelain. They do not chip and are oven and microwave safe.
These little bowls nest perfectly. They hold 2/3 cup liquid in the bowl portion (up to the edge). I’m using them for fruit (of course) and for ice cream. Two average scoops look quite generous.
Both my daughters and myself love this dinner set. This is our first set of higher quality china set. The shipping came in well-packed boxes, no damage would happen with this kind of packaging. So I decided to order another set of Mikasa fine dinnerware set from Amazon (without paying shipping and tax, it’ll be cheaper from Amazon and you don’t even need to wait for sales in local retail shops). We started using dish-washer for cleaning the dishes, so far so good. Not sure they will get chipped when time goes by. My daughters think the food become more delicious with these beautiful plates!
I was looking for something to replace the stoneware dishes that I purchased about 6 years ago. The dinner plates on my old stoneware cracked and chipped so easily that I was down to 5 from 12 orignal plates. I wanted something to last a lifetime without worrying about having to replace them in a few years. After much research, I decided on the Mikasa Antique White pattern. My only concern was that the style would be too “colonial” for my taste. I ordered them after only seeing a few pieces at a local Macy’s store. I ordered the 45 piece set from Mikasa because they had 20% off one item and free shipping. I ordered extra pieces from Amazon because they had the best price. When the dishes arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. They are beautiful and are a classic, timeless design that fits into any decor. They wash beautifully, stack easily in my cabinets and I couldn’t be more pleased with how they look and feel.
After seeing this china in a local department store at what seemed a ridiculously low price I came to amazon.com to check reviews on it. The glowing reviews convinced me this was the set of white china I wanted. And I got a nice 20% discount by purchasing it at that department store and getting their credit card…icing on the cake.
I purchased some other fill-in pieces here at amazon. I love this china. It’s clean design let’s my food do the talking. It goes in the dishwasher with no fear of something breaking. It looks great on the table even without food. And, judging by the other reviews here, I’ll have it forever.
One quick note: a couple of the reviewers here stated they had a difficult time removing the stickers from the bottom of each piece. It’s a simple matter to remove them quickly and easily. Stack up the dishes and set them in the sink in hot water with a little bit of dishwashing liquid. Ten minutes later those stickers all but fall off. They’d probably come off in the dishwasher but then might clog the drain filter, so I think it’s best to let them soak in the sink a bit and then wipe off the labels.
I highly recommend this set of china to anyone who’s looking for a clean design and everyday durability.
Very nice set and well worth the price. Very well packaged and not much chance for brakeage.
While these cups, purchased as a gift from a daughter, are a good size, feel comfortable in hand, and look nice, we were disappointed that coffee and tea stains remain in them. They have to be hand washed to get out the stains, and even with that, a lot of rubbing is necesssary. For this reason alone, I would not select them again nor would I recommend them.
I actually bought two sets of these cups for our coffee area here at work. We have a Keurig set up outside of our offices, and we wanted to purchase some mugs so that we could offer coffee to guests and visitors, especially when we’re holding a meeting on our remote floor.
These mugs were perfect for our cause because they are both basic and still elegant. Not the most hefty mugs in the world, they are lighter than your average cafe coffee mug, but still seem sturdy in the hand. The first thing that comes to mind when I see them is “clean.” And speaking of that, they are very easy to hand-wash in an area without a dishwasher. Wide mouths and spacey handles help in that area.
The only thing I’d complain about is the price, really; I did think they were a little on the steep side for a set of four mugs, and I guess that’s the consumer paying for the name, Mikasa, which from my experience makes decent, but not top-of-the-line stuff. I think that if they were about $6 or so less than what I paid, I’d have given five stars, because I truly am satisfied with the purchase.
Now if the one mug that someone took and never returned would just come back, that would be perfect…
Who really uses cups and saucers any more? Maybe for a formal company dinner or fancy tea party.
The cups that come with the sets of Mikasa Antique White dishes hold 8 ounces (with sipping room). These mugs hold 12 ounces. They have a great slim style and are made of a more refined china than most casual mugs. One consideration: they do not hold the heat like a big, clunky mug. So if you drink your coffee slowly, you may be zapping it more often.
Last year for Christmas, I received the set of Mikasa Antique White Dinnerware to replace my mutt mix of Corelle. I always swore I would only have Corelle because of its durability and longevity as opposed to stoneware. This doesn’t feel quite as destruction proof, but pretty close to it. The bowls that come with the set are wide mouthed and I’m not particularly fond of them. These cereal bowls have a much better shape, but are still quite large. I bought my mom a set or the cereal bowls for her birthday and she complains that she can only stack 3 in her cabinet. I, however, don’t have that problem with mine and love using them for anything from a large bowl of cereal to making the perfect bowl of ice cream.
These bowls look nice, but I agree with the other reviewers; they are too large for cereal bowls. But they are just the right size for my teenage son with his huge appetite. I also use them for salads, vegetables, and as serving dishes. The bowls are very sturdy for everyday use and stay cool when heated in the microwave.I love them. The set arrived quickly and in great packaging. I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks Amazon.
The Antique White has two different table settings available. One with the rimmed soup bowls and a standard cup and saucer. That’s the one I got because I didn’t know any better and the sales person at Macy’s either didn’t know or care that the set I would have preferred had I known about it would have been the set that came with the cereal bowls and the Cappuccino mugs. So now I have both sets of bowls. Anybody want some cups and saucers?
