We use Smart Balance which is as hard as butter when cold, so wanted a pretty dish to put it in on the counter. Have looked high and low for a bowl-like glass or ceramic dish with a lid that was also attractive. Thought this looked like the perfect dish and as far as beauty goes, it is. I LOVE the look of this dish! Sadly though, I was disappointed from day one there is not a rim around the inside edge of the dish to rest the lid on (I see others have said the same). Also, said rim would allow you to wipe excess butter from your knife back into the dish. Instead, the butter ends up on the edge ABOVE the lid and therefore all over the sides of the lid, making a slippery mess.

Why are Americans always talking junk about China's food production?
We (U.S.A.) have plenty of our own problems. We are so worried about protecting ourselves from terrorists, when china Butter we terrorize ourselves... How? Le'ts start with the terrible safety protocols of our own food production. The current peanut butter scare, E.Coli scares of beef at our fast food restaurants. Melamine in our fertilizers. GMO foods and pesticides, recalled packaged lettuce, because it was contaminated with deer or cattle feces, the apple alar scare, etc..

  1. The rave reviews by others are accurate.
This is a beautiful piece, perfect for Euro butter
or two sticks of American butter. It is delightful
for every day use or for more elegant dining,
    depending on one’s life style.
It holds up well in a dish washer,
    and the price is fantastic!
I recommend doing what I did,
purchasing two or more other matching items.

  2. This product arrived safely, well packaged, and quickly. The blue pattern is lovely, and the dish is well made. That said, the dish is huge compared to most butter dishes. You could actually fit about a pound of butter in this. I will probably use it anyway, but buyers should know that the dish is about twice the size of most other butter dishes.

  3. Found listed under butter boat. It is not a butter boat, just a butter dish. I was disappointed. Slow to arrive, but the seller was a joy to work with and great about letting me return it since it was not what I expected. I would do business with him again.

  4. I received the sugar bowl, creamer, and butter dish today. I love them all! I believe that this butter dish is the most unusual I have ever seen. However, it will certainly be helpful in keeping the butter in the dish, and one would never have to worry about butter around the edges of the dish. Also, there is room for more than one stick of butter.

I think this dinnerware–with it’s beautiful pattern–could be used for casual lunches or more formal dinners.

I read a few reviews where customers complained about the packaging. I thought the merchandise was packed securely, and everything was intact when I received my package.

My husband doesn’t like flowery “feminine” dishes, but he likes these, and I think they are feminine…yet with the color blue, and the butterflies, this helps offset too much femininity for men who prefer other patterns. I want to have all the dishes, and will enjoy having dinner guests using this dinnerware. I am remodeling my kitchen using blue and white, and this pattern is perfect!Botanic Blue Butter DishBotanic Blue Jug/Cream, 8 OuncesBotanic Blue Covered Sugar Bowl

  5. Nothing wrong with the dish. It was shipped fast and wasn’t broken. No complaints.

  6. A butter dish with a lid — the perfect form for the function. What i like about this item is that it hold two quarters or butter when you have a crowd. It’s a lovely soft shade of white that would blend in with most place settings and is a fair price. I’d buy it again.

  7. I like this butter dish quite a lot. We have Mikasa’s Italian Countryside dinnerware Mikasa Italian Countryside 45-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 8 and while it is not an exact match (I’m glad it’s not,) this butter dish looks nice with our dishes. I may get the Sophie Conran large salad bowl as well. The function of the butter dish is what initially attracted me. We keep our butter out on the counter top, which caused the covers on traditional butter dishes to get messy as we cover the soft butter. This dish keeps the butter in the deep receptacle, which can hold two sticks, and covers with the flat lid. The lid is NOT a tight fit and would slide off if tilted. It looks very nice out on my counter.

  8. The point of purchasing a ‘covered’ butter dish is to ‘cover’ the butter – UTILITY! The extremely flimsy lid merely sits, precariously, on top of the pot; and only if turned in 1 direction. I was not expecting an airtight seal, but, the lid does not even lie edge-to-edge. There is plenty of room for the contaminating fridge air to funnel in – the butter turns in color & taste, poste haste! The design is so inherently flawed that one must ‘hold’ the lid in place when moving the pot, even slightly, else the lid will just slide/fly right off.

I mentioned the flimsiness of the lid. Please understand, if the edge so much as taps the counter (or, anything not soft), BAM it will break like shale. The same goes for the top edges of the pot. Again, the flawed design: the edges are tapered to near paper thinness.

If looking for utility, avoid the headache here!

  9. This butter dish does hold a standard quarter-stick, but you must carefully put the lid back on in order to avoid smearing it. There is a red butter dish online for half the price, which I also ordered, and I like it better.

  10. This is a wonderful butter dish. It is attractive, fits into the refridgerator well, and is very easy to clean.

  11. Purchased this for Christmas and the first thing I noticed was how tiny it was. A stick of butter barely fits inside the cover!! Butter gets all over the sides of the cover because it just isn’t well proportioned for a regular stick of butter.

I also noticed the color is not even or consistent – I purchased cinnabar and it really didin’t have an even coverage of that color. Perhaps the other colors fare better?

Overall, I was very disappointed in this purchase, especially as I thought it was a bit overpriced.

  12. Although my Fiestaware is black I love this scarlett butter dish. It looks great on my black countertops. It is only made for a 1/4 lb. sticks. People trying to use it for the 1 lb. block will be disappointed.

  13. This is exactly what I was looking for. Fits two sticks of butter at a time, goes in the microwave and dishwasher and goes with everything. It came quicker than expected too.
