I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with these dishes. Many reviewers have complained about the size and weight of the dishes, but I felt I could adjust to that. However, immediately after we started using them, problems occurred. There are chips on almost every dish. My husband burned himself taking a dish out out of the microwave, while the food on it was still cold. The coffee cups that come with the set are just absurdly huge. I liked the pattern, so ordered a few accessory pieces, but in the interim, the chips, etc., have been occurring almost daily. I am so disappointed, and after reading these reviews, I’m angry. I wrote Pfalz. asking a couple of questions about the dishes, and got only one response that led me to buy smaller coffee cups. A waste. Please don’t buy this. I have owned a few sets of dishes in my 20+ year marriage: I’m not a dish collector; we buy a new set when normal breakage depletes our existing one and these clearly will not go the distance.

Which kitchen sets do you like best?
We're moving into our first house in 13 days (YAY). We're replacing the nasty linoleum floor with tile and we're replacing the old nasty counter tops with new ones. The cabinets are about this color: http://www.sauneuf.com/Featured/23085/Image003.jpg with brushed nickle knobs. Very nice. We're going to paint the walls like a butter yellow color. Our living room is going to be light blue, sage green, brown, pfaltzgraff Windsong and beige. The downstairs bathroom will be painted the same blue as the living room & we'll use some orange gerber daisies as accent color. http://www.pfaltzgraff.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Pfaltzgraff-Site/default/Search-Show?prefn1=pattern&prefv1=NPOLI&start=10&sz=10&productDisplayType=1http://www.pfaltzgraff.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Pfaltzgraff-Site/default/Search-Show?prefn1=pattern&prefv1=PGRDN&start=10&sz=10&productDisplayType=1http://www.pfaltzgraff.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Pfaltzgraff-Site/default/Search-Show?prefn1=pattern&prefv1=SMBRZ&start=10&sz=10&productDisplayType=1I think I'm liking the first one (Napoli) best... it's the most homey. But the 2nd one matches the rest of the downstairs best & the third one is so light & pretty. The eat-in kitchen is its own separate room and it's pretty bright from the sliding glass doors. It goes out to the back yard.

  1. Purchased this as a gift from the Amazon website. It arrived promptly and safely (well packed in original carton). $30 off the retail price plus shipping. I’ve never had a problem with any Pfaltzgraff stoneware. Attractive and hardy.

  2. I love the tea rose dinnerware, they look really nice for company or everyday. I also like it because I can order extra pieces to complete the set or if I need to replace a piece should one get broken I can get just the piece I need. I would recommend the dinnerware and amazon.com to my friends or anyone. I have been very pleased with everything I have ordered from amazon.com. My orders show up at my door in good condition and fairly fast from the time I order.

  3. The dishes arrived in excellent condition and fast shipping!!!! I was very impressed with the overall service and product!! I love Pfaltgraff, they last forever and stay just as beautiful. When you use Pfaltgraff dinnerware (any pattern) you will always be pleased with the appearance of your table even if it’s just a simple dinner. I have Had Pfaltgraff for many years now and have found nothing better. A+++++++++++++++

  4. I ordered these dishes because I like the design and functions the best of all the dishes I have seen. I needed new everyday dishes and chose these. I love the pattern. The dishes were shipped in a timely manner. The packing was excellent. The internal box was not even dented. The dishes are really pretty but not dainty so you are afraid to use them. I am enjoying them immensely.

  5. My heart sank when I saw the Amazon box this set arrived in–one end was bashed in for about six inches, and torn, and the delivery person said, “It looks like there isn’t anything in that space.” Actually, there was one loose scrunchy roll of brown paper. Period. The box of dishes was otherwise uncushioned in its outside box.

But somehow, nothing was broken, and I couldn’t be more pleased with these gorgeous dishes. Did I need them? No. Do I love them? Yes! —If you’re tempted, don’t worry about what may seem like a high risk of breakage in shipping. They’re worth the risk (and of course Amazon will replace a damaged set).

  6. These are the perfect size plates, bowls and mugs. The glazed finish is very attractive. I love Pfaltzgraff dishes, this is my second set but a different design. My only regret is that they are now made in China and no longer Pennsylvania.

  7. We needed new everyday dishes so Christmas seemed like a good time to shop at Amazon for them. We picked this set because it looked like it would go with our newly renovated kitchen – which it does. We are thrilled with the colors, the quality and the size of all the dishes. My only complaint is that I wish the mugs were shorter however this was not a show stopper compared to the beautiful plates and bowls. We highly recommend this product!

  8. I picked up this dark blue/brown set of dishes as a gift for my brother… I un-boxed them when they came to make sure they were all in tact. The dishes are quite heavy, which for me is a negative since washing heavy dishes usually means I will drop and break them… but you do get your money’s worth buying such substantial dishware.

They also look really great! Stylish, updated, unique.

  9. I love the pattern on the Pfaltzgraff Sedona and so never considered the size when I bought it, although I did check to make sure it was microwave- and dishwasher-safe. When I unpacked the set, I immediately discovered that the dinner plates did not fit in my cupboard since they are 12″ in diameter. The coffee cups must fit a half a pot each in them, and the deep bowls take getting used to, especially when it comes to eating salad. (Their depth is great for soup or cereal, though.) Although I hate that I have to store the dinner plates in an area separate from the rest of the dishes, I do continue to like this set.

The “microwave safe” label comes with a caveat that you’ll find once you open the box: because this is stoneware, it will get hotter than other dinnerware when used in the microwave, and Pfaltzgraff warns consumers of this. However, I find that dishes do not get as hot as an old Sango set I had nor as hot as my “winter” dishes from Target. Unlike some supposedly microwave-safe dishes that get hot while the food remains cool, these dishes merely heat up as the contents get hot. I tend to reheat, not cook, food using my everyday dishes, so they don’t spend a long time in the microwave. If you intend to cook in these dishes, you might want to re-consider.

The oversize dinner plates can cause trouble in the dishwasher. I’ve had to switch sides for dinner plates to make sure the rinsing arm does not get caught, thus risking blocking the soap dispenser. So far, so good, though. Before purchasing, make sure your dishwasher has the clearance.

Those who like stoneware will not find these particularly heavy; however, if you haven’t used stoneware before or if you have issues with strength, you might find the 2-pound dinner plates too much. To me, their weight feels exactly right — not too thin to feel fragile, not too thick to require effort to lift them. They feel lighter than an old Sango stoneware set I had and lighter than my Target “winter” set of dishes.

As of this writing, the Pfaltzgraff Sedona 32-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 8 is more cost effective than this set for four, although consumers wishing to have 12 place settings will probably combine. Consumers should compare prices available at the time to determine the best bargain. I really like these cheery dishes, although they definitely have their flaws.

  10. I bought these about two years ago and was very attracted to the bright colors and design. After a few months several of the pieces were chipped and now almost all of the plates and bowls have chips missing. I don’t know about other Pfaltzgraff products but I am totally turned off. I agree with others, too, that you cannot use them in the microwave. They get terribly hot.

  11. NO, I didn’t purchase these from amazon.com, but JC Penney. I fell for the colors & pattern, but failed to notice the bottom, where it said ” PFALTZGRAFF”.
This dinnerware CHIPS and breaks way too easily!!! I have owned a different set of Pfalzgraff years ago ( gray with white flowers- can not remember the design name)- which did the same. I vowed never again to purchase from this company. To all of you…. BE WARNED!

  12. I bought this set less than a year ago as a replacement for the Noritake stoneware we received when my husband and I were married 18 years ago. The Noritake survived drops in cast iron or Corian sinks and two boys up to the ages of 10 and 13 before we lost enough pieces to breakage to require replacement.

The Pfaltzgraff, on the other hand, had suffered two casualties before the end of the first week. 11 months later we’ve lost roughly 25% of the pieces to breakage, and at least half of the surviving pieces have nicks and chips. And it isn’t because my boys have suddenly become careless – I’ve broken at least as many pieces as they have. A 2-inch drop into an otherwise empty sink resulted in the demise of two bowls. Simply tapping two pieces against each other loading the dishwasher is enough to chip something.

We purchased the set because I really liked the pattern and the size of the coffee mugs, in particular. We still love the pattern and will likely continue using the mugs until they’ve all broken – but the plates and bowls will need to be replaced much sooner.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the pieces are very substantial and oversized. The dinner plate in this set is the same size as my Noritake platter – and the smaller salad plates are plenty big enough to use as dinner plates for all but the biggest eaters. I have no problems fitting either size of the plates in my dishwasher, but the bowls are a different story. Not only are they large, their odd size and shape makes it nearly impossible to fit more than a couple of them in the dishwasher at a time.

All in all, I am completely disappointed with this set. I’m only giving it two stars because of the pattern and coffee mugs.
